BODEGAS ABEL MENDOZA MONGE

JARRARTE
COSECHA 1999

COSECHA Spanish for vintage

RIOJA

Rioja was the first Spanish wine region to obtain DO status in 1925. In 1991, it was promoted to DOCa (Qualified Designation of Origin), a higher category reserved for wines maintaining a proven consistency and quality over a long period of time.
Rioja DOCa is known primarily for its reds though it also makes some whites and rosés. Most bodegas still use their own formulas for blending red wines with at least three grapes, the most important of which is Tempranillo, the noblest of the native Spanish vines. This grape gives the wines their elegance, concentration of aromas and complexity of flavours. It is this, as well as oak ageing, which gives the wines such personality and individuality.

Female Winemaker: Maite Fernández

Ageing: 12 meses en barrica.

Grapes: TEMPRANILLO 100%

89 Pts. Robert Parker Review:

A good value, the deep ruby-colored 1999 Jarrarte (100% Tempranillo) reveals an elegant, perfumed nose of tobacco smoke, new saddle leather, cherry jam, earth, and pepper. Reminiscent of a top-class Burgundy, it reveals notes of sweet and sour cherries, admirable finesse as well as purity, and an attractive texture.

The 99´s vintage was a dificult year for wines in La Rioja and we had to make a big selection in the grapes. It ´s because your opinion makes us feel proud of our job.
